Restaurant U Patrona       
In a rare moment of wisdom a few years back a certain local English language newspaper voted this superb restaurant the most romantic in town. And indeed it is easy to see why with its two charming, floral patterned rooms and picturesque location near the foot of Charles Bridge.

This restaurant is close to the Hotel Savoy and the Prague Castle. It is like a small castle inside, arched doorways with wrought iron gates, paintings of former Czech rulers at each table, and a wine cellar. However, the food is less than stellar. I had a cucumber salad in "yogurt" sauce, but could have sworn the sauce was mayonnaise. The menu said the cucumbers were topped with dill but they came topped with parsley instead. The onion soup was more like a cream of chicken soup without the chicken. I ordered a vegetable plate with cheese, and it although the veggies were okay the cheese sauce was grainy. Although there was a wine cellar, the wine sold by the glass was awful. I asked to purchase a bottle of wine (only non Czech available) but the lowest price bottle was $30. I found out later that Czech wine is not the greatest so this may not be the restaurant's fault. The service was fine and the atmosphere nice as a pianist softly plays German songs.

Arguably the best dining experience in Prague, the Bellevue sets the city standard for elegance in decor, atmosphere and its attention to detail. While the daily menu of continental treats such as veal, quail and duck topped in rich sauces hits the mark, the Sunday jazz brunch of mimosas and fresh omelettes has long been heralded by locals and tourists as one not too miss. Enjoy the breathtaking view of Prague Castle in the background above the Vltava River.

Metamorphis Restaurant is situated just a few paces from the Old Town Square, in a beautifully restored cellar dating from the 12th century. There are remains of both the Romanesque building and the original 16th century walls. Live piano music creates a special atmosphere in the restaurant and clever lighting brings out the true charm of the original architecture. Metamorphis offers a varied menu covering both Czech and International cuisine. There is also a fine selection of both Czech and International wines.
