Shopping

When you are in Prague shopping is a must. With this guide shopping is a piece of cake

Department Store Kotva
Kotva is a large department store, selling all kind of goods - clothes, shoes, jewellery, stationary, perfumery, sports clothes & equipment and much more. On the top floor there is a terrace restaurant where you can enjoy a meal or just a drink and a magnificent view.

Department Store Tesco    Department Store Tesco

Department Store Krone    Department Store Krone
Known throughout Prague because of its central location, this department store spreads across four floors, including a supermarket in the basement, and offers a mixture of consumer items at reasonable prices. The ground floor sells cosmetics, bags, watches and jewellery. The first floor is given over to men's and women's fashion, both formal and casual, with an assortment of suits as well as casual wear, nightwear and underwear. The second floor sells household accessories and electronic goods. The Krone company runs most of the store itself but concession stands sell leatherware, HiFi's and TV's out front.

Mauritius (Fashion/Clothing)
A plain interior provides a simple backdrop for this shop's stock of leatherwear. It has a black tiled floor, white walls and a steel lighting track illuminating the tubular steel racks. The clothes are split left and right depending on sex, men's on the left, women's on the right. The clothing consists mainly of coats: trench coats, short coats, double-breasted coats and coloured leather coats for women. A small selection of trousers, skirts and belts can also be found, while a rack of denim clothing runs down the centre of the room.

Vinohradský Pavilon
In common with many central European countries, Prague used to have a number of large, ornate market halls. Whilst they are still thriving in capitals such as Budapest, in Prague, all but a few remain. However, the Vinohradský Pavilon has been tastefully restored and is now home to a number of shops, boutiques including many well-known high street outlets as well as local Czech businesses and a Julius Meinl Supermarket. All in all, the Pavilon offers a pleasant place to shop.

The social life in Prague is still concentrated in the city center. So the best shopping is right there. There are a lot of small and often quaint shops on every street especially in Old Town. You will have a chance to buy there souvenirs, hand cut glass, bohemian garnet or jewels. Just walk and watch around. Oh, one more thing, it is not a custom to haggle the price in Czech, price on tag is always fixed even in the stalls.

Western department stores around the touristy Vaclavske namisti will not provide bargains but do offer variety and convenience. For better deals, seek out the smaller stores away from main tourist areas or try your luck at a flea market, here you find many fleamarkets on one view.
